2003 Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT

Chassis No. ZA9BC10E04LA01053

As time has proven, the world of motorsports is a grueling environment in every aspect that challenges the vehicles and those involved to yield some tremendously rewarding experiences. With an established reputation for producing some of the world's most exciting vehicles, the House of the Raging Bull chose to capitalize on the rapidly growing customer racing market that was looking to capture the thrill of motorsports. With plans to be unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, Lamborghini selected their latest flagship model the Murciélago as a platform for their return to motorsports.

One of only nine R-GT examples built, chassis no. 053 was the first model to be developed as a true FIA compliant racing car. With Lamborghini now being owned by Audi, the Italian manufacturer was able to partner with Audi Sport and the renowned motorsports experts at German-based Reiter Engineering to produce this stunning Murciélago R-GT. Assembled in May of 2003, Reiter began their process of converting a standard Murciélago to a full GT1 spec racing car that would compete in the 2004 FIA GT Championship where it was driven by Oliver Gavin and Peter Kox to a podium finish at Circuit de Valencia.

In compliance with FIA regulations, the standard V12 was reduced to 6.0-liters and paired with a Holinger Engineering six-speed sequential transmission. While visually similar to your standard Murciélago, this example features lightweight, racing specific bodywork. The exterior has been sculpted by Reiter for optimal aerodynamics and weight savings. Currently, 053 features a low-drag Le Mans style setup. The resulting car had a dry weight of 1,100 kilograms and output of 590 horsepower and 524 lb-ft of torque while emitting a spine tingling exhaust note reminiscent of V12 era Formula One cars.

Following its short career as a racing car, this Murciélago was briefly displayed at Reiter Engineering before it was enlisted as a development car for future racing components. After its development phase, chassis no. 053 was safely stored before being returned to Lamborghini in 2019 where the previous livery used for racing was then removed to reveal the white livery it is shown in today. According to Reiter, chassis no. 053 was the first “real” R-GT and the basis for every future R-GT to be built.

Accompanied by a file of FIA records and technical information, various service records are also all available for inspection. Under current ownership, this Lamborghini received a precautionary complete fluid replacement and track shakedown and now awaits the setup preferences of its next pilot. A truly unique example, this Murciélago is eligible for many desirable racing events such as the Endurance Racing Legends series at Le Mans or simply for the next collector to admire.
