1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing

Chassis No. 198.040.6500282
Engine No. 198.980.6500231
Body No. A198.040.6500278

Shipped to North America on 8 April 1957 this 300 SL is one of just four 300 SL Gullwings painted in DB 166 Blue Gray and one of only two paired with a 1060 Cream leather interior. It was optioned with 1 kg of lacquer paint, an angle gauge, balancing weights, sealed-beam lighting units, bumpers with overriders, a Becker Mexico radio and automatic antenna, a windshield washing device, and a rare driver's side outside rearview mirror. As a late-production car, it has all but one of the 61 factory modifications from the release of the very first Gullwing and as a result very similar to the early 300SL Roadsters.

Acquired for a collection in 2011, this matching numbers example underwent a complete frame-off, three-year, restoration at the workshop of Rudi and Company in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Rudi restored this 300SL to the specifications as it was when delivered new in 1957 including some additional 'bolt-on' upgrades like Rudge wheels with new axles, brakes, hubs, and a new set of matching Cream leather luggage. It also includes owner's manuals, tools, and a jack.
